Slang, is exist in all countries. Also in Japan, there are many slangs. One of the most exciting part of trip is to feel and understand culture people have. So this time, we introduce 3 slangs which are frequently used by Japanese, not only by young people, but also 20 – 50 years old.

Majide, Meccha (Really)

↑He is saying “Korewa(This is), Majide(really), Yabai(Oh my god)! “
This in one of the most frequently used slangs in Japan. Basically, “Totemo” is a kind of formal words for “Really”, but especially between friends, you use “Majide” and “Meccha” instead every time. If you feel something is extraordinary, you can use it. Like “This Sushi is majide delicious!” or “This temple is meccha beautiful!”. When you use slangs, you can feel like, tasting Japanese culture we think. Don’t you think so? Let’s use!

Yabai (Oh My God)

Now, the third word in picture above, “Yabai”. It means “Oh my god”, and you can use it both in a good way, and a bad way(like oh my god!). This is also really popular slang among 10-50 years old Japanese people, you can find the word every where. You can use Yabai with “Majide” like that picture, and it means that something is really, really extraordinary. So if you find very delicious Japanese dishes, please try to use them. Tapiru (Drink Tapioca Beverage)

Have you ever tried bubble (tapioca) drink? Since 2018, there is 3rd bubble boom in Japan! Many bubble drink shop were established, and even today, it is really popular especially among young ladies for that cute look, and the taste (actually it is really delicious)! To drink bubble drink, they call “Tapiru”, it is verb style of Tapioca(bubble). If you found that shop, let’s say “Tapiru!” and enjoy Tapioca drinks!
